A Busker's Blog

My name's Bryn Haswell, I'm a 21 year old vocalist from Newcastle upon Tyne who's been singing for 6 years now. I started as a busker, performing all over the North East in places such as Durham Marketplace, Bishop Auckland High Street and Northumberland Street in Newcastle, to great success. I regularly averaged a hundred pounds in 2 hours busking, earning as much as 250 pounds in 2 hours.

The response to my busking was always positive, and in 2011 a passer by, upon seeing me in Durham, was inspired to form a whole management company around me. By 2012 the company, iMD3Media of Durham, had branched and now had 8 acts signed to it. In August 2012 I came up with the idea of releasing a charity single for the Children's Heart Unit Fund at the Freeman Hospital, hoping to raise funds and gain promotion for my own career. Unfortunately my management were unwilling to back me with my venture and subsequently I made the decision to part ways with the company. Through busking, I invested 700 pounds of my own money into releasing the single, available online at www.chufsingle.co.uk and well worth a listen. Since then I have raised over two thousand pounds for various charities through performing, organising multi-artist concerts and single sales. Alongside charity performances, I've sourced my own paid gigs and am currently working with Hartlepool based ModProUK to release a showreel for potential clients. In the coming months I'm also hoping to work on recording some original songs with them.

On November 3rd 2013 I got through to the regional finals of the National Open Mic competition, with the judges stating I have "great potential". I came fourth overall, just missing out on the chance to progress through (top 3 went through). I was previously a runner up out of 250 contestants in Talent On The Tyne, run by local charity The Lady Taverners, narrowly missing out on the chance to support both James Morrison and the Sugababes.

Please enjoy my video, She's Out of My Life, currently on Eduzine Global.
